Media Guide

Dear colleagues,

Media Center has prepared this Media Guide to assist you in organizing your coverage of and participation in the IPI World Congress and 57th General Assembly.

Please be sure to check the IPI Belgrade website for the most up-to-date information about the programme and the Press Corner which is designed to serve media and to provide you with the additional resources for journalists attending the Congress.

With 300 participants expected IPI Congress 2008 will be the largest media event in Serbia. IPI and Media Center have developed a dynamic and attractive programme, which will feature the latest developments and challenges in media sphere.

LOCATION
Sava Center is the official venue of the IPI World Congress and 57th General Assembly. It is the largest convention and meeting center in Serbia. Sava Center is located in the business district of New Belgrade just 10 minutes from the city centre.

OPERATING CONDITIONS
All panels and sessions held in Sava Center (no 2 at the map) are open for accredited journalist.
A special area is reserved for photo reporters and TV camera crew at the Conference hall.
Free access to all sessions, including the Opening Session and Special Closing Ceremony at Kalemegdan Fortress, is granted to all media accredited.
Conference Secretariat Office and VIP Room are not accessible to the accredited journalists.

MEDIA INFORMATION OFFICE
Press Information stand, at the entrance of the Sava Center, is there to assist journalists with background information. Multi-lingual communications staff is on hand to assist journalists with questions and data requests during the Congress.
Some of the Congress partners will have the promo booths in the Sava Center Hall with their staff ready to address the journalists.

DOCUMENTS AND PHOTO CENTRE
Next to the Press Info point - Media Centre will provide journalists with hard copies of the official daily press releases and statements made by plenary speakers.
Materials will also be made available electronically on this page – the Press Corner. This section will also contain photographic coverage of the conference. High-resolution photographs will be available for download on this website .
Kindly note that while every effort is made to have these statements available to you in good time, delays are sometimes unavoidable, and we ask for your patience in these cases.
THE PRESS ROOM
More than 20 seats and tables, with Internet and telephone lines are available in the Press Room located behind Conference Hall 0/1. The Press Room is equipped with internet access. Few fax and print machines are also available.
Screens in the Press Room will show the main events of the conference – live if possible.
For international calls, it is recommended that journalists use telephone charge cards, available across the city.
The conference organizers accept no responsibility for equipment and material left unattended.

MEDIA COVERAGE
Coverage of the first half of the Opening (at Parliament Building), all Sessions (at Sava Center) and closing concert at Kalemegdan will be available to all interested broadcasters free of charge, but with the approval of the Media Center as the event organizer.

About Media Center

This year IPI Congress is organized by Media Center, an organization that has worked toward freedom of press in Serbia for the last decade. Today, it is the principal media meeting place in Serbia, where nearly all national news of importance is announced to the press and to the general public. Media Center is a multimedia organization, providing full-scale services in the media sphere, serving both media industry and the public, and it continues to pursue the same principles and values that are the cornerstone of the IPI.

About Congress

Every year, always in another country, the IPI organizes the World Congress and General Assembly. These meetings were previously held in Nairobi, Warsaw, Salzburg, Ljubljana, Moscow, New Delhi, Edinburgh, Istanbul. Congress participants always include highest representatives of the host country as well as other prominent statesmen and public figures. IPI Congress annually brings together hundreds of its members at the IPI Congress. On average around 400 journalists, eminent speakers and guest spend three days in fierce debates on burning media issues (see programme).
